June Eat at Home Challenge – Day 1

Goal #64 is to eat at home all month 12 times.  June 2010 is our second attempt.  (The first attempt, April 2010 didn’t go so well.)

Day 1 – I’ve attempted this many times in the past, but have never completely gone an entire month without eating out. Eating out is my weakness. I love to have someone else make a meal for me, and then clean up afterwards too. I know some people don’t like the taste of restaurant food compared to their own. I’ve been told by DH that I am a good cook, and I think my own food tastes good, but I really do like restaurant food. So this month, as a family, we decided that we are going to do it. DH is definitely on board, and the boys have to follow whether they want to or not, lol. They both agreed to it last night though, so they are on board too. (Although Eddie asked for Burger King today. I had to give him a gentle reminder.) I didn’t start out to well with the menu planning though. I was going to go to the store today, but the long weekend got me all mixed up. I forgot I had to go to a client’s office while the boys were in school so instead of taking them both with me I decided to wait until tomorrow morning when I will only have one. So the boys are having cereal and waffles. DH and I are having leftover burgers from the weekend. Not exactly full of nutrition but at least we are eating at home! One day down – 29 to go!

Weekly Goals – Week of May 17, 2010

Here are the goals from last week.  I have discovered that I need to write these on an actual piece of paper in addition to posting them here.  I get so bogged down in the normal day-to-day that I forget what I wanted to focus on!  I am basically using the same list for my goals this week, with the exception of getting the tomato plants tied up.  That is one thing I did do.  Oh, and it rained again so it was a good thing I didn’t put the snail bait down.  It would have just been washed away.  See, I can be frugal without even thinking about it!

Goal #27 – Sell used CD’s – I’m actually expecting this to run for a few weeks.  I want to at least get started on it.

Goal #52 – Get printed pictures in an album

Goal #61 – come up with a weekly outline of what needs to be done when.

Goal #85 – Paint toes

Misc – Knit for an hour each evening, put down snail bait.

I’m now off to write these down.  I’m also going to work on the pictures tonight for at least 15 minutes before I get out my knitting.  Wish me luck!

Goals for week of May 10-16

I can’t believe that we are already in the second week of May.  The time before school gets out is just flying by!

This week I have a few goals that I would like to work on.

Goal #27 – Sell used CD’s – I’m actually expecting this to run for a few weeks.  I want to at least get started on it.

Goal #52 – Get printed pictures in an album

Goal #61 – come up with a weekly outline of what needs to be done when.

Goal #85 – Paint toes

Misc – Knit for an hour each evening, get tomato plants tied up, put down snail bait.

My plan is to take on all of these goals and post an update the following Sunday, along with the next weeks goals.  Hopefully actually posting this commitment will keep me accountable.  (No promises though, lol!)

Goal #58 – Organize shelving in garage

We have a pantry in our kitchen that I do not like.  It looks like a normal pantry from the front, but it is on the wall that makes the entrance of our kitchen/dining room area, which is a diagonal wall.  (I know, but I don’t know how else to describe it, lol.)  The result is a pantry with storage space that looks like a triangle.  Wider in the front and the tip of the triangle in back.  So basically it gives me about 1/2 of the storage space a normal pantry would give you.

When we moved into this house there was a bookshelf in the garage right outside the door from the house to the garage.  I decided to use it as an extra pantry.  Unfortunately, we also used it as a “catch-all” for random things in the garage.  It got to be a big mess.  That’s why I listed “organize the shelving in the garage to be a pantry as Goal #58 on my list of 101 Goals in 1001 Days

I wanted to shelving to be mostly for extra food.  The boxes in front of it really needed to be sorted and relocated.  Looking at the picture it doesn’t really look that bad, but trust me, it was a major source of discontent for me, lol.

Weekly Goals – Week of April 27th

This week’s goals seem like a lot, but I think most will be doable.  Since it’s my first week I will be able to figure out if I am biting off more than I can chew.  There are a few that need to be broken down into even further but I will figure that out as I go along.

  • Go through the boys clothes – get the old/too small out and figure out what, if anything they need for summer.  Need to do this now so that if we do need more I can put it on their birthday gift idea list
  • Plan Little E’s birthday – I believe we will keep this low key, maybe just the 4 of us at Chuck E Cheese’s.  (Can that be considered low key? :))
  • Plan Big I’s birthday – Need to plan his friend party
  • Plan the family party for the boys
  • Paint my toenails
  • Tackle 3 items on my spring cleaning list
  • Get the pictures that I have printed into photo albums
  • Spend 30 minutes outside (at least!) weeding – This might be a bit hard as it’s supposed to rain Tuesday through Thursday.  I’m hoping it’s just a light rain and I will be able to go out sporadically.
  • Figure out greeting cards needed for May
  • Plant the veggies that I bought over the weekend

Weekly Goals

Do you ever get to the end of a week and look back and wonder what you accomplished?  You had so many plans on Monday and by Friday it seems that you barely got through on the week, let alone anything extra. 

This happens to me all the time.  I often sit at the end of the month and look back, wondering where all the time went, and what I did with it.  I feel like I am at exactly the same place, but a whole month has gone by.

Enter my 101 Goals list.  I started this list in hopes of feeling more accomplished and actually completing some of the things I often dream about getting done.  It’s been over a month since I started the list, and although a few of the easier tasks that could be done in a day have been crossed off, I have not made any headway on any of the items that are more project oriented. 

Having the 101 Goals is great, but without a plan, the 1001 days will go by and I won’t accomplish any of the goals.  I have decided to start setting weekly goals as well, that are based on my 101 Goals.  Each week I will pick one or two of the goals from my master list, break them down into smaller parts, and work on those parts.  In addition to that, I will also have one or two goals that come up weekly that are outside of my master list. 

If all goes according to plan I should start to spend more time on the things that I have decided are important, rather than on putting out “fires” that call my attention, but are not really important to me.

101 Goals in 1001 days

A while back, as I was perusing The Simple Dollar blog, I came across a post that Trent wrote about 101 goals in 1001 days.  Basically you think of 101 things you would like to accomplish in 1001 days, which is just under 3 years.  I love a good challenge, so I decided to start my own list of goals. 

What a hard thing to do!  It took me the better part of a week to finally get all 101 goals.  I wanted to make sure that they were clear and measurable.  I also wanted to try to be a little more creative than I usually am, which can be hard for me, lol.  To see my final list, click here.  I wanted to make it a seperate post so that I can go back to it and update it as I go along.

I also wanted to try to make it a bit more fun, so I asked Mr. D to join me with his own list.  He wouldn’t bite.  Then I asked my sister and she was completely on board.  I think the process is so much more fun with a partner.  She has her own list and occasionally we go over them together.  We’ve even gone out to dinner to discuss them.  I think I am going to suggest weekly updates with each other. We can go over the goals that we worked on the previous week and pick which ones we want to work on for the next week.  Hold each other accountable, so we don’t forget to focus on our goals and why we picked these things to be on our list.  We can do it by email or phone call to make it easy, as I don’t think a dinner out each week is in the cards. 😉
